Southampton Academy graduate Sam Gallagher will reportedly be moving on this summer having failed to build on his early promise at the club and a return to former loan side Blackburn Rovers is said to be on the cards.
With the 23-year-old having made three starts and 23 substitute showings for us in previous years, after a spell at MK Dons back in the 2015/16 season, he really began making a name for himself at Ewood Park in 2016/17, scoring 12 goals across the campaign for the club but a loan spell at Birmingham City in 2017/18 didn’t go as well as hoped as he only found the net seven times.
He’s at the right age to kick on though, and plenty feel it is the best time for him to seek fresh pastures to do that and The Sun on Sunday (26/5 – P69) claimed that Tony Mowbray was looking to bring him back to Blackburn given his former success.
A £5million fee has been suggested but there are some doubts as to whether Blackburn could raise that.
I’m in the second camp, with manager Ralph Hasenhuttl having far more of an eye on development and youth, I’d like to see him get another six months under the Austrian before we make any decisions, and the gaffer did call on him in the second half of last year, albeit sparingly.
Despite the limited minutes, the question is did Hasenhuttl see something in him for next season, even if he didn’t think he was an option last season?
I guess we’ll soon know.
I hope we have a sell on% or a bit back clause in there. I can’t help but think he’ll turn into a great player #SaintsFC

I think we all hoped that as an academy player he would make the break through but it doesn't that it will happen. Unfair to keep him hanging on so a move would be best for all & he would go with our best wishes
